Great question! Hypermobility is an elongation of the ligaments in your joints. This can be caused by an injury, intense repetitive movement, or genetic.
What are ligaments? Ligaments are connective tissue that tie your bones together essentially. They have some give that’s why we can move but all in all that are not malleable. Ligaments can not be “tight” or “loose” the way muscles can. Once your ligaments are loose, that’s the ball game and your joints are unstable.
How does this present? Usually as excessive flexibility paired with chronic muscular tension. It can be deeply fatiguing and cause chronic pain.
Hypermobility is incredibly common in queer/trans people and neurodivergent people.
Massage therapists can not diagnose any one with any condition.

Neuromuscular is working with the body’s proprioception to reprogram your ability to move.
What is proprioception? It is the system that tells your body where it is in space. It’s why you don’t have to look at each step when you’re walking. Have you ever had the sensation of temporarily falling off of a curb because the street was farther away than you expected? That’s proprioception. Your body thought the street was closer and the curb was shorter than it was.
How is this important? When you’re injured, have chronic pain, have repetitive movement, etc your body starts to think that you can’t move as much as you can. This is a normal and natural response. By using techniques in a safe environment we can together reestablish your body’s connection with safe pain free movement.
This is very affective for people who have been injured, have chronic pain, or have CPTSD.

Trigger Points are painful globules bound up in muscle fibers. They often refer pain to other parts of the body. Meaning you can have pain in one part of your body that is caused by a trigger point somewhere else. The pain can feel very nebulous, aching, dull, or hard to find. The trigger point in itself when pressed is sharp and intense but should quickly dissolve.
Trigger point work doesn’t have to be intense or unbearable. No body work does! Let’s retire “no pain, no gain” together!

Silicone cupping uses suction to adhere plastic cups on a person. The image above are the cups used. Cupping is a very successful technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Cups can be left on from a few minutes to 20 minutes.
What does it do? If massage is all about pushing + pulling the tissue, then cupping is about lifting and separating the muscles + fascia. Knots and chronic tension in the body can often choke the muscles from any new blood + nutrients. Cupping ushers in new blood to the area to help repair and heal the body naturally. It’s using your own body’s tools to get you pain free.
Are the big red circles bruising? No, it’s not bruising. Bruising is blood pooling in the muscles because of tissue damage. This is like a hickey. It’s blood pooling to the surface layers of the skin.
Cupping is great way to get a lot relief in a finite amount of time because we can put the cups on one part of your body while working on other points of pain! That’s bang for your buck!

Gua Sha is exactly like Cupping … but different. It’s the same theory but applied differently. It is an incredibly effective tool from Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Sometimes the body has held onto adhesions and stuck tissue for years. Or sometimes the body has built up a lot of scar tissue from a surgery or injury. In these cases, we turn to Gua Sha. It is great for surgery and injury recovery!
By using a jade tool or a plastic spoon, we can break up adhesions or scar tissue that is built up over time. It can be somewhat aggressive but it doesn’t have to be painful. It’s a great bang for your buck to get you feeling better faster!
-
Sure do! We can work on any kind of surgical scars to make sure you heal the way you want and start feeling great in your body!
For top surgery, we can gently work to break up bound up tissue that has formed along the scar line. This will help you regain sensation quicker, regain movement quicker, and heal more euphorically!
Focused Work
Detailed massage can be very effective for injury recovery and/or chronic pain. Pain can come in all forms and radiate all over. We look at your whole history and body to treat all of you. Techniques like Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy, Myofacial Release, and Stagnant Cupping can help you get your life back.
Relaxation Massage
Life can be relentless. Massage is great for decreasing stress and managing anxiety. Let’s help regulate your nervous system with deep relaxing strokes to help you sink into your body. We can even use Himalayan Hot Stones to melt away stiff stuck tissue. Warm stones are glided down the body to warm up muscles and make other techniques used easier to integrate.
Have it All
Why choose when you can have it all! Together, we can blend detailed focused work on specific pain patterns with soothing relaxation massage for the best of both worlds!
